Wagner Hicks Counsel Gursharon K. Shergill, who recently joined the firm as a member of the Banking & Financial Services and Complex Commercial Litigation practices, spoke with Law360 on Aug. 30 for a spotlight piece about her new role, background, and what inspired her move to Wagner Hicks.
“The firm really provides me with the flexibility to continue doing work that I love while also living my life outside of work,” she told Law360. “I like to say that I’m a mom who loves to be a lawyer and a lawyer who loves to be a mom. That’s something that really drew me to Wagner Hicks. Their attitude is that we’re humans and we’re lawyers and those are not mutually exclusive.”
In addition to culture and work-life balance, Gursharon praised the firm’s inclusivity and leadership’s receptiveness to feedback.
“There’s this true commitment to diversity within the legal profession without feeling the need to show the commitment through website highlights or any of the various ways that we see firms in the legal community will do, but will not always hold true to it,” she said.
Finally, she discusses the ways in which her own strengths — including extensive investigations and regulatory matters — so closely align with the firm’s esteemed financial services practice.
“A lot of times, it’s the understanding of the client’s business [that] really shapes your litigation strategy,” Gursharon said. “I think my experience learning about really huge businesses has really helped me to then understand big-picture goals, who to talk to or who may have an interest or stake in a regulatory matter in the business side, and how to navigate the internal relations within the business.”
